b. July 7, 1776; m. Sarah, dau. William Clarke, who d. March 28, 1859. He went from Charlton to Andes, when quite a young man, and was among its first settlers. He held the office of Deacon of 1st Presbyterian church for some years. He d. April 26, 1849. Ch.
1) - WILLIAM CLARKE, b. Sept. 27, 1802; m. March 22, 1831, Electa, dau. Joseph Dodge; was Elder, 1st Presb. church at Andes, from 1831 till 1853, when he removed to Franklin, where he now res. In 1852, appointed Deacon, 1st Presb. church of F., and subsequently Elder. Justice of peace at Andes for four years; was colonel of militia. Ch.
a) Ezra Stevenson, b. July 7, 1833; m. Maria Scudder. In 1851 he commenced study of medicine with Dr. Marcus Peake of Andes, and grad. at Pittsfield Medical College in 1854. He first located at Polo, Ill. He entered the service in 1862, as 1st Lieut., 124th Ill. Vols. Losing his health, he resigned 9 mos. after; res. New Boston, Ill. b) William Clark, b. June 21, 1835; m. Annie Warner; res. N. B., Ill.
c) Sarah Melvina, b. June 27, 1839; res. Franklin.
d) Fordyce Harrington, b. Aug. 19, 1841. Studied for three years at Delaware Literary Institute, with a view to entering the ministry, but the war turned his steps in another direction. Aug. 27, 1862, he enlisted Co. D, 144th Regt., N. Y. Vols., and was subsequently appointed corporal. In July, 1863, while with his regiment, he met with an accident, the result of a rail road collision, which sent him to Armory Square hospital, Washington. Here he served as ward master and ward steward till the close of the war. He then commenced the study of medicine, and in Sept., 1867, attended a course of lectures at the Albany Medical College, and grad. Dec., 1868. While in Albany, he was resident physician at the N. Y. State Soldier's Home.
