James' Early Years

James was the first white male child born in Danbury in Connecticut. His father had made purchase from the Indians of the first settlement of Paquiogue (now Danbury). James was born in the same year1.

James and Mary Andrus

James married his stepsister, for his father James Sr. had married Mary's mother, who was a widow of Abraham Andrus. Mary was the daughter of Abraham Andrus [/Andrews] and Sarah Porter and was baptized at Farmington on May 18, 1689.

Their marriage date has not yet been discovered.

James was a Deacon of the Congregational church in Danbury1.

The Final Years for James

The will for James, dated September 16, 1760, mentions his wife Mary; children James, Benjamin, Hezekiah, Thomas, Mary Phoebe, Abigail and Sarah; grandson Michael; and granddaughters Anna and Amy, the children of son John, deceased. The will was proved on June 23, 1761; with witnesses Captain John Benedict and Lieutenant John Benedict. Inventory was filed on October 20, 1761 to the amount of 2,4611.
