b 21Feb1820, m 16Feb1845 Ann Elizabeth, dau Joseph B Brush of N Huron, b 20May1827. A prominent Cincinnatti contractor and builder. He came to Ohio at the age of 18 and taught school at Ashland. Returning to Rochester at the age of 25, he married and in 1856 moved to Chicago, to Cincinnati in 1863.
He was widely known in many states and Canada as an intelligent business man. He was a contractor and before the late war was engaged in building leeves in the south, since then his business was in contracts for building railroads, bridges, tunnels, etc. He was a quick and accurate calculator, prompt in decision and vigorous in the prosecution of an enterprise. He was usally successful when he followed his own judgment, but in some cases confided to much in other men, and in so doing lost the bulk of his fortune. A democrat and in early life was quite active in advancing the interests of his party. An accommodating and generous neighbor, a constant and reliable friend and a kind and affectionate husband.
