His father was born in the States in 1726 and died some 58 years later, likely of malaria picked up from his years as a courier-spy for the Loyalist side of the Revolutionary War. Daniels’ Early Years

Daniel and Elizabeth

Daniel Dafoe was born in 1769 and died prior to 1844 and was the youngest child of John Ernst Defoe and Maria Keller. He married Elizabeth Wright prior to 1790 and we have record of 11 children.

Their third child was Samuel Dafoe (1797-1873) who married Eve Wright. Samuel and Eve are both buried in Zion's Hill Cemetery, Thurlow Twp. When first married, their son Cat Wesley Dafoe (1841-1913) and wife Mary Elombe helped his parents on their farm. About May 1865, with two young children, they went up The Hastings Road, about 120 miles north-west of Belleville to their reserved Lot 19, Concession 9, in Bangor Twp. North Hastings. The land was far from suitable for farming. During the winter months, Calvin was a lumber jack. Life was very primitive and hard. Always their first concern was for survival. In 1887 son John Wesley invited his whole family to join him in Manitoba and found them a farm near Killarney in the south.

Elizabeth Wright was born in 1769 in the States and passed away on Dec 21, 1844 at Fredericksburg. Her family came north to Canada West after the Peace of 1794. She prays for [?; per Don Elliott] 200 acres in Mecklenbough District; granted on August 30, 1797. She is buried in Lakeside Cemetery at Meafor, St. Vincent Twp. in Grey County.
