HISTORY OF THE PROPERTY OWNED BY ROY AND ALICE BENEDICT IN 1951
This 10 acre lot was the E4 of Lot 6, Range 5, on Highway No.26. It was purchased from the crown January, 1847, by Mr. George Corbit who acquired other nearby property also. In July, 1869, this 10 acres was sold to Mr. Alex McFee. It is thought that Mr. McFee had built the brick house and the barn that was on the property when the Benedicts lived there. Mr. McFee sold the property to his son-in-law, Mr. William H. Wright in May 1906. In December of 1907 Mr. Wright sold to Mr. John H. Petch. Until 1909 this property was in the town of Owen Sound, then a bylaw was passed annexing this land to Sydenham Township. Some years later it was reverted back to the city of Owen Sound again. Mr. Petch died and the family moved away. In March 1920, the property was acquired by Mr. J. Arthur McDonald and in April of 1922 they sold to Mr. Donald Cameron. After Mr. & Mrs. Cameron died the farm was bought by Walter Spencer in September 1941. They resided here until March 1948 when Roy and Alice Benedict bought the holding.

The Benedicts had a family of two sons and two daughters. The younger son Bob, and daughter Lois were at home when the Benedicts moved there. Eleanor is married to Lloyd Spence and Frank to June Dailey. Mrs Benedict was a valued member of the Bothwell Corners Women's Institute.
