The Final Years for Charles
Charles Benedict passed away at The Meaford General Hospital, St. Vincent Twp., Grey Co., Ontario, and is buried in Lakefield Cemetery, in Meaford, Ont.
IN MEMORIAM; --- In loving memory of the late Charles Benedict, St. Vincent, who passed away on July 24th 1934. One by one the links are broken, as loved ones pass away. But we know, in heaven we'll meet them, on resurrection day. Sadly missed by wife and family.
MRS. CHARLES BENEDICT PASSES; --- March 21st 1948 --- Lucinda Brown, wife of the late Charles Benedict, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. William Woolley, on Sunday evening, March 21st 1948, in her 79th year. Deceased had been in failing health for some time past, but had been about the home until four weeks ago, when she became seriously ill.
The late Mrs. Benedict was born in St. Vincent Township, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs Thomas Brown. In 1895 she was united in marriage to Charles Benedict. They farmed in St. Vincent until 1920 when they moved to Meaford, operating a small vegetable farm on Nelson Street, Her husband predeceased her in 1934 and since then she led a very quiet and retired life, having sold her property and spent the past several years among her family. She was a member of the Meaford Baptist Church, but owing to infirmities had been unable to attend for the past several years.
Deceased is survived by two sons: Deputy Sheriff Roy G. Benedict of Owen Sound,
Charles E. Benedict of Meaford, and three daughters: Mrs. Lorenzo Fulford of Balaclava, Mrs. James Jolley of Woodford, and Mrs. William Woolley of Meaford. She is also survived by one brother, John Brown of Owen Sound, he being the last survivor from a family of thirteen. Twenty-one grandchildren and five great grand children also survive to mourn the passing of a thoughtful and loving grandmother.
The funeral took place from the Gardiner Funeral Chapel on Wednesday afternoon, March 24th, and was largely attended by relatives and friends who gathered to pay their last respects. Service was conducted by Rev. M. F. Morden, whose message was very comforting and most appropriate. There were many beautiful floral tributes, and the granddaughters acted as flower bearers. The pall-bearers were six grandsons; Frank, Robert, and Ellis Benedict and Elgin Fulford all of Owen Sound; Murry J. Holley of Toronto and Lyle Benedict of Meaford. Interment was made at Lakeview Chapel, Meaford.
