Mabel A. (Benedict) Gordon, formerly of 21 Harrison St., New Britain, the widow of Richard Gordon, died Friday night, Nov. 23, 2007, at The Jerome Home.

Born in New Britain, the daughter of the late Clarence and the late Anna (Scheuy) Benedict, she graduated from New Britain High School and New Britain Normal School (now CCSU) and taught in the Plainville School system for 15 years. She was a member of The First Church of Christ, Shuttle Meadow Country Club, Connecticut Women's Golf Association for 36 years and the New Britain Museum of American Art and volunteered at New Britain General Hospital.

She is survived by three cousins, Page Hartling and her husband Jeff of New Britain, Janet Breau and her husband Paul of Cheshire and William Buckingham in South Carolina. She was predeceased by a cousin, David Buckingham, formerly of Windsor. A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at The First Church of Christ, Congregational, New Britain. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, New Britain. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, her family requests that donations be made to The First Church of Christ, Congregational, 830 Corbin Ave., New Britain, CT 06052. Porter's Funeral Service (portersfuneral.com) in Kensington is in charge of arrangements.
