Henry Benedict Vol I, pg 289%CITE{1001}%: Capt Elisha was a resident of Albany in 177a, when he petitioned the common council to be appointed marshal. An account in his favor was ordered paid 4Dec1771. (Munsell's Hist. Coll. of Albany, vol I, pp 225, 333.) He purchased, 16Jun1772, property in the township of Ball County of Albany, and by the terms of the deed, appears to have resided there before that date. In 1774, he was engaged, by direction of NY Prov. Congress, in forming military companies in Cumberland Co., VT (Hall's Vermont, pp 387 and 641) He was commissioned Captain in 8th Co., 2d NY Continental Regt., 29Jun1775. (O'Callaghan's Rev. Papers, vol 1, p 106; vol II, pp 31, 36, 37, 43.) He served before Quebec, 1776. (see Journals of Prov. Cong. of NY., vol I, p 184; vol II, pp 56, 58; also, Force's Am. Arch., vol I, 1776.) Oct 1780,, Capt Elisha and his three sons, Ensign Caleb, Elias and Felix, and his negro servant, together with other citizens of Ballston, were surprised in their beds, and taken prisoners by the British and Indians, under Major Monroe. Capt Elisha and his three sons fell to the lot of Capt. John, leader of the Indians, and were carried to Canada. The pay roll of sundry officers, etc., on file in the office of comptroller of state of NY, shows that Capt Elisha, Elias, and Felix, were kept prisoners two and a half years. He afterwards removed to Canada, and d there 26Aug1798.
