The Parents of Henry
Henry's Early Years
Little is known of James Henry Benedict as a young man, but he was known as Henry to his family.
Henry and Rachel
Rachel Stillman was born on October 2, 1828, the daughter of George and Sarah [Foley] Stillman. She died on March 27, 1909 and is buried in the Belmont Cemetery with Henry.
Henry and Rachel were married on Nov. 8, 1849 by Rev. R. J. Uniacke. They lived in Belmont where Henry farmed.
On the 1881 Census for Scotch, Hants County, Nova Scotia, Henry writes that his ethnic origin is German, as do his children, four of which are still living at home: Jacob, George, Susan and Annie. His wife, Rachel, indicates that she is English.
The Final Years for Henry
Little is known of the final years for Henry. His death date was obtained from Donna Parker, footnote 1.
