from "Genealogy of the Benedicts in America" by Henry M. Benedict

THOMAS was b. 164-, Southold, Long Island, where, and at Huntington, he passed his youth and early manhood. In 1662 he removed with his father's family to Jamaica, and in the year following the town granted him a "home lot" and "ten acres of meadow." I conjecture, from this grant and from the fact that, Sept. 29, 1663, he signed with others a petition to be taken under the government of Connecticut, that he was of age.

Dec. 13, 1663, he was appointed "to gather the rate made for the purchase of the Hills." He married Jan., 1665, Mary, daughter of Andrew Messenger, one of the original settlers of Jamaica, March 10, 1656, and magistrate in 1661-62. Thomas removed to Norwalk 1665-6, and was made freeman in 1669; pounder fence viewer and surveyor between 1667 and 1686. He died at Norwalk, Nov., 1688-9. His inventory filed Nov. 5, 1689, shows a clear estate of £169. His wife survived him.%CITE{1001}%
