Some of the following may or may not be true!  I consider these to be anecdotes until otherwise proven.  Likewise, the source of the coat of arms is unknown.

The surname MORRIS is apparently derived from the Latin, mauritius, meaning dark and swarthy.  Thus the name probably was orginally Maurice.

Early records mention Ricardus Filius Morys in the Yorkshire Subsidy Rolls in 1297; Robert le Moreys in the Somerset Hundred Rolls in 1273 and John Morice in Buckhamshire Rolls of 1275.

Sir Christopher Morris (1490-1544) was master gunner of England.

And, of course there is the famous William Morris (1834 - 1896), well known for the chair that was named after him!

My story begins with my great great grandfather [[EdwardMorris][Edward Morris]]. I believe  that my Morris ancestors resided in the midlands of England during the 1700's before coming to Ontario sometme between 1813 and 1819.
