Per Patti Benedict Bowden: Aunt Mary (nee Kincaid) and her husband George Behrend were living in Washington State, so Jim's mom loaded her three kids (ages 5, 4 & 2 1/2) in the car...Jim wants you to know that it was a '53 Chevy Bel Air, yellow with a cream top, 4 door hardtop... and headed west to somewhere near Ballard. Within a couple years Gen married a bohemian named John Metzgar, who was an artist and diver. He replaced a lot of the cedar logs under the floating homes on Lake Union with 55 gallon drums. John & Gen had two daughters, 1) Jody a nickname for Jonelle born in 1957 in Seattle, Washington, and 2) Norma Jean born in 1959 also in Seattle. They lived at various times at Richmond Beach, on Queen Anne Hill, in Sultan, in Snohomish, and in Monroe. Gen divorced John when Jim was in 8th grade, around 1962.

after Gen divorced John, Neil showed up again. Gen had promised the 3 older kids that they would not have another stepfather, so she and Neil didn't marry until 1972, right after Jim went to Coos Bay to teach. At that time, Neil had a jewelry shop on Spenard Road(True Alaskan Jewelry) Anchorage, Alaska, so he took Gen, Jody and Norma Jean up there. (_Note: when I lived in Anchorage Alaska during this time period, I do remember this particular Jewelery Shop. It was around the curve and down the street from where I was living-Sandee_)

Patti and Jim Bowden were both school teachers in Oregon where they raised their two sons. After retirement, they moved to Lexington, KY to enjoy their life. Jim is an avid fan of history, particularly military history, and they wanted to be closer to the monuments and old battlefields. they make many road trips throught the country, golf bags and pet dog Chipshot included. Both are dedicated golfers, and they enjoy the courses along the road that they come across. They say the winter weather in KY is much easier to endure than the Oregon winter weather. Both wonder how they ever managed to work before retirement. Thier lives are filled and they find so much to do and enjoy.
