Caleb's Early Years
Caleb was born August 1861 at Sullivan Twp., Grey Co., Ontario. Not much is yet known of his early years.
Caleb's Later Years
On the 1911 census, at the age of 50 years we find him listed as Kale with a "K".
He is at this time, boarding with a 77 year old widow and her two daughters who only Migrated to Canada in 1891. Did Kale know the Husband before he died and felt sorry for the family? Or did he maybe admire one of the daughters? Or just casually boarding with them.
There seems to be no mention, that I know of, that Caleb ever went to Polk, Nebraska with his father and two brothers. This Elizabeth Heldon, that he boarded with, She might be a clue. If Caleb's mother was Irish like the 1881 census states and born 1829, this Elizabeth might be a younger sister born 1834. She might have migrated in 1891 to be with her sister, maybe Sarah was sick or dying at the time? Maybe Kale paid Elizabeth's passage??
The 1911 Census has Kale working for Krug Bros. Furniture Co., 50 weeks per year , 60 hours per day at 15 cents an hour and it states that he made $450 in 1910. So he does not look like a traveller, to me.
The address where he is boarding is High Street West, Chesley. Ard Benedict also lived on High Street West, Chesley
