Mercy Knapp was born in 1713 and died 84 years later on May 22, 1797, outliving James by twenty years.  Mercy was the daughter of Lt. Samuel Knapp Sr. and Hannah Bushnell.  She and James resided at Danbury.

His estate was distributed on June 9, 1777 to his widow Mercy, the children James, Francis, Bushnell, Caleb, Mercy, Hannah and Thankful%CITE{1001}%.

He m 2nd, prior to Mar1707-08, Sarah, dau of Robert Porter and widow Abraham Andrus, b 20Dec1657. [Abraham Andrus died 3May1693] He survived until Aug1717, certainly, when he deeded property. Mercy Knapp was the daughter of Lt. Samuel Knapp Sr. and Hannah Bushnell . Mercy Knapp was born in 1713 at Danbury, Fairfield County, Connecticut. She married James Benedict  circa 1732. Mercy Knapp died on 22-May-1797.

---++++ _Bushnell Benedict's spouse_
Many postings on the Web indicate that the name of the wife of Bushnell Benedict (b. 1734) of Danbury, Connecticut, is unknown. I am happy to report that she has been identified; she was Elizabeth Hobart, daughter of Joseph Hobart of Ridgefield and Danbury. The evidence was lurking within land records in Ridgefield, in which Joseph's heirs sold their shares in certain land parcels. Bushnell Benedict and wife Elizabeth were among the sellers. I have written this up in an article that has been published in the latest issue of Connecticut Ancestry, vol. 53, no. 2 (Nov. 2010).
