VALK -- BENEDICT -- A quiet but pretty wedding took place at the home of Mrs. H. N. Culbert, New Hamburg, when the latter's sister, Marguarite Elveretta Benedict of Chesley, was united in marriage to Gerald Martin Valk, Son of Mrs. Valk and the late G. M. Valk, of Chesley. Rev. E. G. Dale Pastor of the Baptist Church, officiated.
The bride entered the room on the arm of her nephew D.W. Culbert, To the strains of the Lohengrin Bridal Chorus, played by Miss Margaret Culbert, niece of the bride. The bride was charming in a gown of white georgette, richly trimmed with lace, and carried a shower bouquet of Talisman roses and fern. The ceremony took place beneath an arch decorated in pink and white with peonies of several shades. During the signing of the register Miss Grace Peacock sang "I Love You Truly." The grooms gift to the bride, the pianist and soloist wore handsome pendants.
A delicious luncheon was served at a table prettily decorated with pink and white and centred with a three story wedding cake. Following the luncheon the bride and groom left  for Toronto and Niagara Falls. The bride wore a travelling costume of gray and blue, with matching accessories. On their return Mr. and Mrs. Valk will reside in Chesley.

Gerald Martin Valk, Born in Holland, son of Mr. & Mrs. Gerrit Vander Valk came to Canada in 1915 and so do not appear on the 1911 Census.(Insert "possible answer to mistake in Obituary as to being married in 1915"), After 10 years, on January 22 1925 Gerald's Father died of Chronic Sciatic Neuritis, after suffering for 3 years. Retta's Obituary; MRS. GEORGE "as printed" VALK DIES IN HOSPITAL March 1966.
CHESLEY -- Mrs. Gerald Valk, 63, died Tuesday at the Chesley and District Memorial Hospital, where she had been a patient since November 1965.
Born in Chesley, Mrs. Valk was the former Marguerite Benedict, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Benedict (insert)"poor Ard has many names". She married in 1915 (insert again) "news to me, she was born 1903". She was employed for some time as a bookkeeper in the Krug Brothers Furniture factory in Chesley and later worked in the Chesley Shell Factory during the war years. Following the war she was employed as a bookkeeper in the Canadian National Railways Station in Chesley, until her retirement about 14 years ago.
Mrs. Valk belonged to the Baptist Church in Chesley and was always active in many women's groups associated with the church.
Surviving are her husband, a brother and a sister, Gordon of Arizona and Hattie, Mrs. H. Culbert of New Hamburg. She was predeceased by four brothers.  

Retta died in Chesley in 1966, Gerald Valk died in Chesley, buried, September 05, 1978. Both are buried In Chesley Cemetery beside Retta's parents, Ard and Christina Benedict, taking up all four plots bought by Christina.

Through talking to Norma Warmington of Chesley, it seems that Retta and Gerald were a very devoted couple she can still remember each and every Sunday she would see them walking past her house to the Baptist Church, always holding hands, sometimes stopping to chat a minute. They were very good friends. of Ivan Wark and at the time of death, their house was given to him and his family as they had no children of their own.
