b. about 1707; m. May 21, 1729, Mabel Noble, at New Milford, Ct. He d. Sept. 28, 1781. He was one of the sufferers by the burning of Danbury by the British troops under Gen. Tryon, April 27, 1777; and his heirs were allowed, May, 1792, by the state of Connecticut, œ205 4s. 8d., for damage done to his property. Distribution of his estate took place March 27, 1782. No widow mentioned. Heirs of son Matthew, deceased, received œ317 4s. 4d.; Noble, Zadock, heirs of Thankful, wife of John Hopkins, deceased, Jonah and Abijah, each received œ158 12s. 4d.; total, œ1164 12s. 10d. (Prob. Rec., Danbury, Ct., vol. IV, p. 235.) Ch. <BR>

b. Jan. 25, 1735; m. July 6, 1763, Eunice, dau. Samuel Gregory, Esq., b. Jan. 29, 1738, and d. Jan 27, 1815. At the breaking out of the Revolutionary war, he raised a company of one hundred soldiers(*) in Fairfield Co., which was incorporated May 1, 1775, as the 6th Co. in the 5th Regt. of the Connecticut line, which was under the command of Col. David Waterbury. He commanded his company during the campaign of of 1775, serving before Ticonderoga, Aug., 1775, and before Montreal, and below Fort St. Johns, Nov., 1775. He was discharged Dec. 13, 1775; reappointed and taken prisoner in Nov., 1776, at Fort Washington, on the Hudson river. He appears to have been been appointed captain three times, receiving the last appointment, Nov., 1776. Hinman says "that at the time he was taken prisoner, one half of his company being with him, were also taken -- the other half then being in Fort Lee, on the other bank of the Hudson. The prisoners, excepting officers, were confined in the sugar house, in New York. The cruelties inflicted upon them are the theme of conversation among their relatives to this day. The detail of the sufferings was communicated to their friends by the survivors, Sergt. [Jonah] Benedict and Stephen Bump. Col. Joseph Barnum, the father of one of these sufferers learned from them that, for many days, his son, having been deprived of food and drink, literally died of hunger in the act of attempting to bite a brick, and with a piece of brick in his mouth," etc. (See Hinman's Connecticut in the Revolution, pp. 137, 168, 208, 234, 587.) Capt. Noble represented the town of Danbury in general assembly of Connecticut, Oct., 1779; selectman in 1787. He d. May 19, 1809. Ch. <BR>
