The Parents of Electa Benedict

Electa’s Early Years

The 1790 Massachusetts Census, for Berkshire County indicates Joshua, his wife, and two daughters were in Berkshire County,Massachusetts. We know Anna Benedict was born in 1786, Charlotte Benedict not until 1797 so it is likely Electa is the other daughter being referred to on that Census.

This fits with the 1851 Canadian Census on which Electa's age is 62, making her birth year 1789.

Electa and Lawrence

Given the very limited information on Electa and Lawrence it is likely they did not have children to carry on the Storing family name or to pass on family history to the future generations.

Lawrence Storing was one of at least eight children of George Storing also spelled Starring and Staring, and Hannah Zimmerman.

Electa Benedict and husband Lawrence Storing appear on the 1851 Census in Richmond Township, Lennox & Addington County. Then on the 1861 Census in Hungerford Township, Hastings County.

It appears Electa and Lawrence may have in fact raised or helped raise, Electa's sister Charlotte's son. William/Willet Brooks appears to be connected to Electa and Lawrence (see Electa's sister, Charlotte Benedict).

Lawrence Storing died 20 Sept 1869 at age 76 in Hungerford Township, it would appear he died at the home of his nephew, Elias Benedict, son of Electa's brother, Ard Benedict. It is believed Electa had predeceased Lawrence but so far no death for Electa has been found, either has the place of burial for Electa or Lawrence been found.

From Joshua Benedict's Revolutionary War Pension File, it is learned that a Lawrence Storing, of the Township of Richmond, made the coffin for Joshua Benedict and was present at the time of his death in 1839. Presumably this is Electa's husband.
