The Parents of William

William's parents, John Craighead and Letitia Cochrane, were married on 27 Mar 1889 at Warkworth, Ontario. They moved into the 150 acres farm that John had purchased on 22 Dec 1888 at Lot 20, Concession 9 of Percy Twp., Northumberland Co., at Godolphin, approximately 10 kilometres west of the town of Campbellford, Ontario. Here, they had 7 children of which the first 3 died as infants. William was the youngest of the surviving children (4 boys). John and Letitia sold this farm on 1 Feb 1905 and moved the family into Campbellford. Then on 3 Jan 1907 they purchased an 164 acres farm on the north halves of Lots 25 & 26 of Concession 9 in Sidney Twp., Hastings Co., on the east side of Stirling, Ontario. John died on 13 Apr 1923 and was buried in the family plot at Stirling Cemetery. Letitia lived another 20 years on the farm with son Percy and his wife Nora until 29 Aug 1943 when she died and was buried in the Stirling Cemetery.

William's Early Years

William and his 3 brothers lived their early lives on the farm near Godolphin and attended a small one room country school. His education continued in Campbellford and then in Stirling. He helped on the farm at Stirling during his youth. During his late teen years, William worked around the trains in the Stirling/Trenton area. In late 1918 and early 1919, he worked at the Military Convalescent Hospital in Whitby, Ontario. After this he went to Detroit where he worked in a garage as a mechanic.

William and Frances

William Craighead married Frances Bancroft on 25 Dec 1923 in Toronto and they established their home in Detroit where their daughter Betty was born. In 1928, they moved back to Trenton, Ontario, where he took a job in the Borden's milk processing plant. Sometime around 1931, William was transferred to the Borden's plant in Ingersol, Ontario, where he continued working until his retirement in 1963.

The Final Years for William and Frances

Frances died on 10 Feb 1958 in the St. Thomas Hospital. Shortly after William retired, he died of a stroke on 06 Mar 1964 in the London Hospital. Both were buried in the Ingersol Cemetery.
