      The parents of Alexander Smith were John Smith and Margaret Davidson.

---+++_Alexander’s Early Years_ 
Alexander Smith was born in St. Raymond, Quebec April 1, 1871.  From 1893-1909 they had 7 children.  Only Rodney was born in Canada. The other six children were all born in the United States. Five of the six were born in Vermont, the sixth, being Winnifred Mary Smith was born in 1909 in Manchester, New Hampshire. The family moved back to Canada and to Saskatchewan.  Alex started the local post office at Lothian (Smithburg).  Do not know exact year. 
Obituary for Alex reads:  Mr. Alex Smith, resident of Nipawin since 1940, passed away at the home of his son, Raymond on Sunday, January 29, 1950 at Nipawin, Sask.  

Mr. Smith who was 78 years of age, was born at St. Raymond, Quebec on April 1, 1871.  He was married to Miss Mary Reason at St. Raymond in 1892, a pioneeer resident of Davidson district and post master of the Smithbury district for ten years.

In the year 1932 he moved to Resource where he farmed until moving to Nipawin in 1940.

The funeral was held in the Legion Hall, Nipawin on Wed., Feb. 1 at 10 a.m. with Father E.J. Desmond of the Roman Catholic Faith officiating. Interment was made in the Roman Catholic section of the Woodlawn cemetery.

The pallbearers were Dr. W.F. !McDougall, J. Douford, E. Nutter, J. Ohleman, R. Ohleman and M. Loyst.

Two daughters and one son predeceased him. Besides his wife, Mr. Smith is survived by three sons, Rodney of Davidson, Willie of Carrot River and Raymond of Nipawin; two daughters, Mrs. Winnie Fichtner, Calgary, Alta. and Mrs. Mary Kyler of Carrot River; two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Ward of Manchester, N.H. and Mrs. Jack Miller also of Manchester, N.H.; and one brother, William of !LeChute, Quebec.  Seventeen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren survive.

Nipwain Funeral Co-operative were in charge of the arrangements.
