Mary’s Early Years

Mary was the first child of George Craighead and Elizabeth Elspet Cooper, born in 1818 in Windy Walls of the Parish of Old Deer in Aberdeenshire County, Scotland. According to the Old Parochial Registers, Mary had two children with George Stott out of wedlock. She and her children emigrated to Canada with her parents and family in 1844 to Seymour Township, Northumberland County, Ontario.

Mary and John Hunter

Mary married John Hunter on 10 Apr 1845 at the Burnbrae Presbyterian Church in Seymour Township in Northumberland County, Ontario. John had previously emigrated from Scotland in 1833 and had a farm on Lot 20, Concession 5 of Seymour Township. They had five more children. Both are buried in the Burnbrae Cemetery.
