James was born at Southold Long Island; removed with his parents to Norwalk, CT, and there married 10May1676 Sarah, dau John and Sarah Gregory, b 3Dec1652. He was one of the eight who purchased and settled Danbury, CT. He sold his property in Norwalk, 26Mar1691. He m 2nd, prior to Mar1707-08, Sarah, dau of Robert Porter and widow Abraham Andrus, b 20Dec1657. [Abraham Andrus died 3May1693] He survived until Aug1717, certainly, when he deeded propety. He was b 6Feb1649/50. Chd:

Sarah Crofut, eldest daughter; Rebecca, wife of Matthew Crofut; Phoebe, wife of Samuel Benedict; Ebenezer, grandson; Rachel, wife of David Barnum, grandau; Ruth, wife of Caleb Benedict, grandau; the last three, ch of Rachel, who m Ebenezer Benedict. Will names widow Phoebe, Samuel, eldest son, Eleazer, Asa, Elijah, Abigail, wife of David Knapp, Phoebe, wife of Samuel Dibble, Mary, wife of Capt. Justus Barnum, Rebecca, wife of Joseph Beebe Jr., and Anna, grandau, wife of Noble Sanford. Widow received Lb356 12s. 8d; Samuel, Lb147 5s. id.; Eleazer, Asa and Elijah, each Lb137 5s. id; Abigail, Lb73 12s. 6d; Phebe, Mary, Rebecca, Lb69 12s. 6d.; and Anna, Lb34 6s. 3d. Chd
