Elias' Early Years
Elias and Minerva
Elias Benedict held the Patent to Lot 22 Concession 12 in Hungerford Twp., Hastings County beginning July 1849. He also came into possession of Lot 23 Concession 11 in 1869. These properties are near the Black Creek which runs through Hungerford Township. Elias sold both pieces of property in 1880 when he and wife Minerva and family then moved to a farm north of Brighton in Percy Township, Northumberland County.
Elias and Minerva appear on the 1861 & 1871 Census in Hungerford Township and the 1881 in Percy Township. On the 1861 census it was discovered that Elias and Minerva had, it appears, adopted a son, Harvey J, sometime before 1861. Harvey's surname was, it seems Murray, but by 1871 he is simpy Harvey Benedict.
Further, in 1871 they have a daughter Mylissa age 8 living with them, she does not appear again and so far, no more information has been found about this Mylissa.
The Final Years for Elias
Both Elias and Minerva are buried in the Warkworth Cemetery, Percy Township, Northumberland County.
